Milton Keynes Hash House Harriers

Our Story

Hashing is a worldwide phenomenon.  It was started in Malaysia sometime in 1938 by G or Gispert.
(Albert Stephan Ignatius Gispert, 31/07/1903 - 11/02/1942. Killed in action, during the fall of Singapore.)
The Hash trail is based on the idea of a paper chase. Check this Wiki link for more information

The Milton Keynes Hash House House Harriers (MKH3) was started on Monday 28th May 1990 by a Kiwi refugee from the Wellington Hash, Jonathan (Wiley Coyote) Hobbs.  The first venue was 'The Old Barn' in Central Milton Keynes.  In the best traditions of the Hashing he was the only one to turn up.  This made it easy for him to set the next run on 4th June 1990, also from 'The Old Barn' in Central Milton Keynes!  This time he was more successful and there was a pack of 10.

  •    Jonathan (Wiley Coyote) Hobbs
  •    Andy (Spurt) Johnston
  •    Carl Clements
  •    Colin McCarthy
  •    John Richardson
  •    Kevin (Snotlodge) Goldstone
  •    Murray (Navigator) Heward
  •    Nigel (Rasputin) Monks
  •    Peter (Jockstrap) Hegarty
  •    Sara (Woodbine) Hook

For being such a whingeing Kiwi bastard, Wiley Coyote was swiftly renamed to Grizzler.  Grizzler set up MKH3 along the lines of the Wellington Hash.  He even bought along the secret plans for the infamous, trail laying, dribble dropper. Which Leroy tried to recreate many years later, purely from hearsay.
Over the years we have developed our unique style of hashing for everyone, regardless of athletic ability.
During the first three months the runs were fortnightly and from Monday 3rd September 1990 we have run every Monday.
Things snowballed when it got into the local paper the Milton Keynes Citizen in August 1990.
Pretty soon it was on to the first anniversary run at 'The Old Barn' in Central Milton Keynes.  This was followed by our first real hash weekend event, the 101 weekend at the old Milton Keynes Rugby Club in Greenleys.  This entailed the use of the infamous Bicester Gunge machine.

Things moved on and in 1998 we had our 500th event at the Quarries Scout camp in Cosgrove.  This was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who could remember any thing about it.
We moved to our now traditional event venue, the Buckingham Rugby Club for our 666th run in 2001 with our 'Devil of a weekend' event
We then did the big one for UK Hashers.  After 3 years planning and preparation we were the hosts of the 14th UK Nash Hash in 2007, at Towcester Racecourse.
Since then in 2012 we hosted Milton Kenya, The UK’s Alternative, Alternative Interhash.
2015 brought our 25th Anniversary and 1500th run.
2016 we held our first national bashing event Nash Bash
2018 saw us host the UK’s Full Moon Nash Hash
